Maryja D. “Lola” Alvarado, 84 of Portage passed away Thursday, April 25, 2024.  She was born April 24, 1940 in LaSalle, Illinois to the late Francisco and Ramona (Montano) Abila.  For 30 years Lola worked at 12/20 Bowling Alley in Miller and then worked as a cook at Pepe’s in Valparaiso.  She enjoyed relaxing on her deck, walking, dancing to Pitt Bull, reading and going to the library, wearing her favorite Chicago sports team outfits, and her favorite activity scratch-offs.  Most of all, Lola loved spending time with family, especially her grandchildren.
Lola is survived by her daughter, Andrea (Eddie) McCart; grandchildren, Aaron (Macahlia) McCart, Brandi Gebert, and Dale Gebert; great grandson, Myles McCart; and many nieces and nephews.  She was also preceded in death by her son, Anthony Alvarado and her siblings, Paul Abila, Tony Abila, Lucy Ward, Isabelle Solis, and Charlie Abila.
A Private Family Memorial will be held, with cremation at Angelcrest Crematory, Valparaiso.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
