Michael Eugene Prochno, 73, of Valparaiso passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 18, 2026. He was born September 27, 1952, in Valparaiso to Eugene & Genevieve “Biddy” (Wright) Prochno and graduated from Valparaiso High School in 1970. Mike made his career as a heavy equipment operator with Martin & Sons Excavating for 25 years, then served as a school crossing guard for Valparaiso Police Department at Parkview School. 

Mike’s talents as an accomplished softball player kept him in high demand during the summer months, playing in multiple leagues over the decades throughout the region. He was an avid Chicago sports fan.

On October 17, 2009 he married Christine Ann Dixon who survives along with their sons: Nicholas Prochno of Kouts & Michael Prochno of Chicago,  two granddaughters, Clarke & Spencer Prochno, and his sister, Vickie Shupe. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Following cremation at Angelcrest Crematory a celebration of Mike’s life will be announced for a later date.
