Michael Ray Johnson, 54 of Valparaiso, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family on Saturday, May 6, 2023. He was born February 9, 1969, in Chicago, IL to Charles Ray and Vera Willard (Harris) Johnson. Mike attended Crown Point High School, and made his career in computer operations with Unilever Brothers in Hammond. In his younger years, Mike was involved in the Boy Scouts and the Boys Club. He enjoyed attending Bethel Church in Crown Point, watching NASCAR, and cheering for the Chicago Bears. Mike was a talented handyman, who could build and fix anything around the house. He was a hardworking man who put his family above everything else. Mike will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, son, and brother, who will be deeply missed.
On November 15, 2018, Mike married Beatriz E. Castano, who survives, along with his mother, Vera Johnson of Cedar Lake, IN; siblings: Charles Roy Johnson of Crown Point, IN, Cheryl (Steven) Peterson of Crown Point, IN, and Daniel Charles (Melissa) Johnson of Silver Creek, GA; many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, aunts, and friends; and his beloved kitties: Darla, Lily, and Gabby. He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Ray Johnson; and infant sister, Sherry Dawn Johnson.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 11, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso, with a funeral service beginning at 12:00 p.m. Burial will follow at Chapel Lawn Cemetery, Crown Point. Memorial donations may be made in Mike’s name to the Wounded Warrior Project.

Beatriz, I wanted you to know that Michael loved you with all his heart. He wanted to be sure you knew that he wanted you always taken care of. You are part of our family forever and will always be my sister. I will always love Michael and miss my little brother. I am so happy the 3 of us had such a wonderful time at Indiana Beach with the KISS cover band and watching Mike sing and enjoy himself.
