Nancy Patricia Brooks, 88 of Valparaiso, passed away surrounded by family, Saturday, April 13, 2024. She was born April 4, 1936 in Gary, IN to Emil and Martha (Toth) Yovanovich. Nancy graduated with an associate’s degree from I.U. Northwest and worked as an ICU nurse at St. Anthony’s Hospital, Crown Point. She also worked and volunteered at St. Agnes Day Service Center, Valparaiso. A member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Valparaiso, Nancy enjoyed reading, watching birds, traveling, working jigsaw and word puzzles, and most of all spending time with her family.
On April 7, 1956, Nancy married Richard A. Brooks who survives along with their children, Rebecca (Wade) Wilfong, Kimberly (Bill) Schuster, Richard (Joanne) Brooks, Jim (Doug) Brooks, John (Kimberly) Brooks, and Nancy Brooks; six grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; and sister, Martha Lewis. She was preceded in death by her parents and granddaughter, Kelly Mercaldo.
Visitation will be held Friday, April 19, 2024 from 9:00-10:00 AM at St. Paul Catholic Church 1855 Harrison Blvd., Valparaiso with a Funeral Mass beginning at 10:00 AM. Cremation will follow and burial of ashes will take place at Angelcrest Cemetery, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the St. Agnes Day Service Center, Valparaiso.
