Nancy Ruth Kissinger, 90 of Avon, IN, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family at her daughter’s home on Wednesday, June 14, 2023. She was born December 29, 1932, in Chicago, IL to the late Floyd and Anna May (Booker) Gephart. Nancy studied for 2 years at the Moody Bible Institute, and was a devoted homemaker to her family. In her younger years, Nancy had been very active with Liberty Bible Church, participating as a Deaconess, singing in the choir, teaching Sunday School, and visiting shut ins. She was a current member of Washington Evangelical Free Church, and enjoyed her dogs, gardening, tending to her flowers, and bird watching. Nancy loved music, and was a talented cook and baker, specializing in whoopie pies. Nancy put her family above all else and was very giving and generous with them. She especially loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Nancy will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humor and contagious laughter. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, who will be dearly missed.
On June 11, 1955, in Palatine, IL, Nancy married Lloyd Kissinger, who survives, along with their daughters: Susan (Warren) Hewitt of Brownsburg and Stephanie (William) Smith of Kouts; grandchildren: Joel (Jill) Hewitt, Jeremy Hewitt, Joanna Hewitt, Joshua (Angie) Smith, Michael (Ashley) Smith, Markus Smith, and Amy (Christopher) Lane; 10 great-grandchildren; and brother, Al (Betsy) Gephart. She was preceded in death by her infant son, Michael Lee Kissinger, sister, Joann Gephart, and brother, Dr. Harlan Gephart.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, June 17, 2023, from 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, with a funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Private Burial will take place at St. James Lutheran Cemetery, Darlington, IN.
