Phyllis A. Modrak, 86, of Valparaiso, Indiana passed away Tuesday, September 10, 2024, at Valparaiso Care &Rehabilitation Center. She was born November 24, 1937, in Gary, Indiana to Gilbert & Dorothy (Houchin) Gress and graduated from Horace Mann High School. Phyllis made her career as a hairdresser with Fantastic Sam’s in Illinois and then with a locally owned shop in Merrillville, Indiana. She enjoyed shopping and spending time with friends.
Survivors include her children; Kevin (Ann) Hamer of Valparaiso, Kurt (Cindy) Hamer of Phoenix, Arizona, Kristi Hamer of Chandler, Arizona, grandchildren; Katie (Arnie) Gough, Jacob Hamer & Josh Hamer, and great-grandchildren; Lucy Gough, Amelia Gough, Oscar Hamer & Riley Hamer. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Donald Gress.
Following cremation at Angelcrest Crematory a private family celebration of Phyllis’ life will be held.
