Richard J. Oliver, Sr., 77 of Valparaiso passed away Friday, November 10, 2023.  He was born September 13, 1946 in Youngstown, Ohio the son of Albert J. and Caroline V. (Cicatiello) Oliver.  Richard began his career with US Steel, where he worked for 22 years and went on to deliver for Southwest Beer Distributors and Baker Produce.  An avid Cubs fan, he also cheered for Ohio State.  He enjoyed playing golf and ran the senior league at Robbinhurst.  A devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather, Richard will be dearly missed.
On December 9, 1967, Richard married Linda A. Gillespie who survives along with their children, Deborah A. (Edward) Hecimovich and Richard J. Oliver, Jr.; grandchildren, Jason, Ashley, and Justin Hecimovich, and Brandon Oliver; sisters, Carol Organ and Alberta J. Oliviri; brother-in-law, Larry Gillespie; and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Brian J. Oliver and Robert John Oliver; father and mother-in-law, John T. and Joan M. Gillespie; and his beloved dog, Molly.
Following cremation, a celebration of life will be held at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mayo Clinic, Lakeshore Paws, or the American Cancer Society.

I am so sorry to hear about Mr. Oliver. We had so many great times with him. I can still picture him & my dad putting up the tent or trying to put up the tent when we all went camping. They laughed so much that it took forever to get the tent up. I know him & my mom & dad are going to have good times together in Heaven like they did here. -Denise Noffke Dorabialski
