Richard John “Sam” Samansky, 85 of Valparaiso, IN, passed away Sunday, December 7, 2025. He was born February 10, 1940, in Gary, IN, to the late George and Anna (Duca) Samansky. Sam graduated from Emerson High School and proudly served in the US Army Reserves. He went on to a career with Inland Steel as a Mill Mechanic for over 40 years. Sam was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, and the Elks Lodge in Hobart. He enjoyed golfing, working outside, and cheering for the Chicago Bears. Sam also loved cars, especially his Chevy Corvair. He had a generous spirit and would help anyone in need. Sam was a kind and loving husband, father, and grandfather who cherished the time he spent with his daughters and grandchildren. He will be remembered for his happy disposition, witty nature, and kind heart. Sam will be dearly missed.

On December 2, 1972, Sam married Andrea Wasil, who preceded him in death in 2022. He is survived by their daughters: Heather (Donald) Hand of Morgan Township, and Gloria (Bill) Healy of Greenfield, IL; grandchildren: Alexis (Martin) Aguayo, Brooke Healy, Madison (Tobhias) Redd, Donald Hand, Jr., Taryn Hand, Martina Healy, and Carly Hand; great-granddaughter, Rosalie; and many loving nieces, nephews, family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother, Bob Samansky.

A visitation will be held on Friday, December 12, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Graceland Cemetery.
