Richard L. “Dick” Schultz, 74, of Morgan Township passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2025. He was born August 10, 1951, in Valparaiso to Kenneth & Doris Mae (Doll) Schultz and, like his forefathers, he took up farming as his lifelong passion, growing crops and raising livestock on his family farm.

Dick graduated from Morgan Township High School in 1969, and received a B.A. in Agricultural Economics from Purdue University. Along with farming, he also dedicated many years to public service. He served on the Morgan Township Advisory Board, was appointed to become one of the first members of the East Porter School Board, was elected as Morgan Township Trustee, and had been a Wanatah Mercantile board member. In the early 1990s, he became Assistant Cub Scout Master for Pack 940 and entertained the scouts with “Uncle Dickie’s Story Time.” He was a member of Valparaiso First United Methodist Church.

On August 12, 1978, he married Robin Snook who survives along with their sons: Jonathan Schultz (Erin Anderson) of Maryland & Jeffrey Schultz of Morgan Township; sister, Nancy Courtney (Sam); and granddaughters, Grace & Claire Anderson-Schultz. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Commonly found tinkering around on the family farm or in the fields, Dick also enjoyed traveling with his family on vacations, listening to rock music, watching basketball games, researching family history, and spending time with family and friends, often during a rousing game of Euchre. He was fondly known as “Uncle Dickie” by his many nieces/nephews and great nieces/nephews and he will be remembered for the constant love and support he gave his family and community.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, August 27th from 3 – 7 pm at Moeller Funeral Home, Valparaiso. A memorial service will be held Thursday, August 28th at Valparaiso First United Methodist Church, 103 N. Franklin St. beginning at 11:00 am. GUESTBOOK

Dick was a good friend and neighbor of many years. In his obituary it's noted that his nieces and nephews called him Uncle Dickie, well, so did I because whenever I mentioned Uncle Dickie, everyone knew exactly of whom I was speaking. I always loved being able to catch up with Dick whenever I saw him at neighborhood gatherings. I'll definitely miss his positive attitude and fun loving nature. -Roger Kleist

Rest in peace cousin. Our condolences to your family. -Bill Doll

Thinking of you, Robin and family. Remembering Dick as one of nicest guys I have ever known. We spent 6 years as classmates at Morgan Twp, being one of the smallest graduating class of 69, we got to know everyone quite well. We were all more like family by the time we graduated. Dick always had a smile, could tell the best jokes. He never seemed to be involved in the capers that made our class famous. He was always willing to help anyone. He will definitely be missed by all of us. Heartfelt condolences, -Sandra Duckworth Wirebaugh
