Richard “Rich” Fredwin Kurth, 65 of Valparaiso, passed away on Wednesday, January 1, 2025. He was born on April 22, 1959 in Gary, IN to the late Richard and Sally (Wright) Kurth, graduated from Merrillville High School and obtained his bachelor’s at Indiana University. Rich made his career as Finance Manager for over 30 years at Hal Herring Chevrolet and Grieger Motors. He was an avid golf enthusiast and enjoyed watching football, especially the Buffalo Bills and Chicago Bears. If you knew Rich, you knew just how much of an active and devoted family man he was, which included supporting his son and granddaughter’s sporting careers. Rich was the guy you could always depend on, always seeking out to help others no matter the circumstance—he would always make it work. He proudly provided for and protected his family; and while he could be described as a gruff man’s man, his softer side was always saved for his children and grandchildren. His sense of humor and deep love for his family, friends, and strangers alike will be dearly missed.

He is survived by his children, Gabby (J.R.) Gniadek and Jackson Kurth; grandchildren: Ty Gniadek, Cianna Gniadek, and James Olivia Gniadek; sister, Terri (Lou) Niksch; best friend and mother of his children, Lisa (Scott) Brakebill; his family at Grieger Motors; and many loving family and friends.

A visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 8, 2025 from 4:00 – 6:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, with a service beginning at 6:00 PM.
