Robert “Bob” “Sonny” Turnbull, 92 of Wheatfield, passed away at home on Wednesday, October 16, 2024. He was born on December 29, 1931 in Harvey, IL to Archie and Alice Turnbull. He prided himself on his work, making his career as a maintenance mechanic for ACME Steel for 35 years. Bob was short and sweet, to the point, and had no problem saying no. He meticulously kept up with his yard, which included power washing the siding and windows on his house just this year. In his younger years, you would hear of the adventures of “Casper and Thunder,” which he and his wife, Doris, were affectionately called as they rode motorcycles together. Bob enjoyed the simplicities of life. His determination, humor, and love for his family will be missed and remembered for years to come.
On April 18, 1952 in Crown Point, IN, Robert married Doris Flaherty, who preceded him in death in 2020. He is survived by their children: Debbie (Mike) Rogers, Melvin Turnbull, and Kim (Michael) Fackson; granddaughters, Michelle and Jodi; great grandsons, Gaige and Bobby. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Helen DeRidder; son, Robert “Bobby” Turnbull; and daughter-in-law, Donna Turnbull.
A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2024 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso with a Funeral Service beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment will follow at Graceland Cemetery, Valparaiso. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
