Robert E. Henderson, 84 of Valparaiso, passed away Friday, March 20, 2026.  He was born on December 30, 1941 in Valparaiso the son of Byron “Barney” and Elsie (Brenn) Henderson.  Bob grew up on a farm in Hebron and was raised in the house where his father was born.  As a kid he loved the farm work and would tell tales of his brother, Dick and him baling hay.  He attended Butler University and was in the U.S. Marines Reserves.  Bob met his future wife and proposed after dating her for three weeks, which changed his mind about making a career in the Marines and they were married for 58 years.  He worked for Bethlehem Steel for 20 years and helped supervise the building of Sand Creek Country Club and was proud to say. “I was the first to jump into the new pool.”  Later Bob started his own business working in remodeling construction.  His customers liked him for his honesty and trustworthy demeanor.  The older and single ladies knew they were safe letting him in their home.  Retirement time was enjoyed with walks in the woods, working outdoors, and antique trucks.

On October 14, 1967, Robert married Cathy Shewanick who survives along with their daughter, Lisa Henderson; sister, Carol Henderson; brother, Richard (Helen) Henderson; and brother-in-law, John (Janice) Shewanick. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Scott Henderson; and brother-in-law, Robert Shewanick.

Following cremation at Angelcrest Crematory, Valparaiso, a private burial of ashes will be held at Angelcrest Cemetery, Valparaiso.
