Robert F. Baum, 89, of Wanatah passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, January 1, 2023. He was born December 19, 1933 in Griffith, IN to Leland & Minnie (Stolte) Baum, graduated from Morgan Township High School and served proudly with the U.S. Army.  Robert made his career as an over the road truck driver for various firms over the years, finishing the last 10 years with Custom Machining Services, where he filled any role that was required.  He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wanatah, and an avid ham radio operator, W9RZR, for decades. The joy he took in fishing was diminished only slightly when Norma would have the bigger catch.
On June 15, 1957 he married Norma Blaney who survives along with their sons; David (Barbara) Baum of Knox, Ron Baum of Wanatah, Jim (Mariann) Baum of Wanatah, Robert (Beverly) Baum of Knox, Mike (Dawn) Baum of Grovertown & Charles (Rebecca) Baum of Byesville, Ohio, brother, Harry (Kay) Baum of Missouri, 13 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Brook Ann Mitchell in 1995, siblings: Mary, “Bud”, Vernon, Larry & Loretta.
A visitation will be held Thursday from 9 – 11 am at Moeller Funeral Home, Valparaiso with funeral service beginning at 11:00 am and entombment to follow at Graceland mausoleum.  Memorial donations may be made to St. Vincent DePaul Society at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Wanatah.
