Robert L. Spaulding, 79, of Valparaiso passed away Saturday, November 4, 2023. He was born September 7, 1944 in Vincennes, Indiana to Virgil & Lucy (Alton) Spaulding, attended Valparaiso schools, served proudly with the U.S. Army from 1963 -65, and with the Indiana Army National Guard for an additional 30 years.  Bob made his career as a millwright with U.S. Steel for 43 years retiring in 2015 and was an active member of American Legion Post #94 in Valparaiso. Military service and supporting military personnel, veterans and their families was the focus of Bob’s life.  Always an advocate for helping others, his 25 years volunteering with the Toys for Tots program was merely a snapshot of his active involvement in likeminded projects.
On July 25, 1965 he married Sandra D. Pierce who preceded him in death on May 11, 2020. Survivors include their son, Robert L. (Carol) Spaulding, Jr. of Valparaiso, grandchildren; Sam Spaulding, Jake (Rachel) Spaulding & Julie Spaulding. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Marlene McChristian, and brothers, Larry & Phil Spaulding.
A visitation will be held Thursday from 11 am – 2 pm at Moeller Funeral Home, Valparaiso with funeral service beginning at 2:00 pm and burial to follow at Memorial Park Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be made to Dunes Hospice or American Legion Post #94
