Robert M. Jones, 59, of Boone Grove, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 16, 2023. He was born December 10, 1963, in Hammond to James and Sandra (Miller) Jones. Bob graduated from Portage High School, and made his career with US Steel for 28 years, serving on the crane crew, fire department, and as an electrician. He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, and Local 1014 Steelworkers Union. Bob was also a gifted artist, who enjoyed doing volunteer art work, painting, carving, sculpting, and drawing. His character, Mr. Pop’n Fest, had been used as artwork for the Valparaiso Popcorn Festival. But more than anything, Bob was a devoted and loving father. He took on the role of both parents when his wife passed away, and remained steadfast, selfless, and positive while raising his children. Bob will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.
On March 8, 1991, Bob married Susan Marie Reynolds, who preceded him in death in 2015. He is survived by their children: Keenan Jones of Valparaiso, Daelyn Jones of West Lafayette, and Zion Jones of Boone Grove; his father, James Jones of Portage; his siblings: Kelly (Laurie) Jones, Deanna (Dave) Gallardo, Julie (Brian) Harrje, and Jennifer (Ian) Wilczynski; and many loving extended family members. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sandra Jones; and best friend, Dave Mays.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2023, from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Road, Valparaiso. The funeral service will begin on Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home, with burial to follow at Angelcrest Cemetery.
