Rodney Lewis, 52 of Valparaiso, passed away on Friday, August 25, 2023. He was born on January 12, 1971 in Gary, IN, to James and Frances (Schneider) Lewis. He was instrumental in raising his numerous nieces and nephews, where he would even take them on rides on the back of his wheelchair. He lived with muscle dystrophy for 36 years and never let that interfere with living his life to the fullest with determination and laughter. Rodney never knew a stranger, and if you were a stranger, you weren’t for long! With an active imagination with jokes to match, he quickly lit up any room he was in. He enjoyed gaming and above all, spending time with his family. He was a loving son, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include parents, James and Frances Lewis; brother, Richard (Terri) Lewis; brother, best-friend, and caretaker, Andy Lewis; Rodney’s girlfriend, Michelle Gray; beloved dog, Puffers; and many loving aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and extended family. He was preceded in death by sister, Ann Ballard; great-nephew, Jaxsin Gilmer; and grandparents.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, September 2, 2023 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, with a service starting at 1:00 PM. Memorial donations may be made to the Muscle Dystrophy Association or to the family. The family of Rodney would like to thank VNA Hospice for their outstanding care and support.
