Ronald J. Holmes, 79 of Schererville, passed away Friday, November 10, 2023. He was born August 17, 1944 in Terre Haute, IN to Valentine J. and Doris (Harbough) Holmes. A graduate of Garfield High School in Terre Haute, Ron went on to earn his bachelor's in history from Indiana State University. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Marines and continued to serve his county, working for the U.S. Government for over 30 years. Ron was a bit of a car buff, was fond of old cars, car shows, and stock car racing. In earlier years, he was an avid runner and always has been a huge Colts fan. He enjoyed watching westerns and had a soft spot for animals. Ron was a loving husband, father, and devoted grandfather who will be greatly missed.
On September 6, 1975, Ronald married Patricia Talty who survives along with their children, Allison (Brian) Peters, Shana (Dan) Holmes-Bane, and Joshua (Tracey Siewin) Holmes; grandchildren, Jordan Peters, Natalie Peters, Emma Bane, Joshua L. Holmes, and Madison Holmes; and siblings, Mary (Steve) Vandergriff and Larry Dean Holmes. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Carol Knoll.
In honor of Ronald’s service to our country, a private family graveside service will be held on Thursday, November 16, 2023 at Marion National Cemetery, Marion, IN. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Allison, Shana, Joshua what a wonderful father I got to know, he always would share something of you guys each time we met for coffee or traveling to a meeting, He /Mom are so very proud of you guys and where life has taken you, I will truly miss the laugh he always shared and camaraderie every time we met.
