Ronald John Yagelski, Sr., 90, of Valparaiso formerly of Michigan City passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 8, 2023. He was born June 23, 1933, in Chesterton to John & Helen (Novak) Yagelski and attended Michigan City Elston High School. Ron made his career as a Field Sales Manager with Calkins & Co. Food Broker for over 30 years, retiring in 1996. He will be fondly remembered as the charter boat Captain of “Catch 1” sailing from Michigan City Harbor. Morning coffee with a loyal group of friends at McDonald’s in Michigan City and Sunday golf outings were always cherished moments. Ron and Rolena enjoyed 11 years of retirement in Zephyr Hills, Florida. Entertaining his grandkids and eventually their families who were his pride and joy meant the world to him and will solidify his legacy for generations to come.
On June 28, 1952 he married Rolena Samuelson who survives along with their children, Ronald J. Yagelski, Jr. (Lisa Stanz) of LaPorte & Jane Burton of Valparaiso, sister, Sharon Marler of Michigan City, grandchildren; Ann Frump (Ben), Christopher Burton (Lisa), Nicholas Yagelski (Sarah) & Allison Yagelski, great-grandchildren; Laura, Noah, Madelynn, Andrew, Alex & Owen, and great-great grandchildren; Liam & Nora.
A memorial mass service will be held Wednesday, December 27, 2023, beginning at 10:00 am at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 109 Ann St., Michigan City, Indiana.

Rest in Peace our dear friend Ron. You were so loved and appreciated by so many boaters in the Michigan City marina. There was nobody that worked harder than you did. We were all blessed to have known you. Thank You!! To Ron's family: Ron lived an amazing life full of much love and happiness and was always surrounded by family. May knowing that Ron is no longer suffering bring peace to all of you. Ron was an amazing family man and friend to so very many. He loved his family dearly and was so very proud of all of you.
