Ronnie Albert Johnson, 79 of Valparaiso, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, January 29, 2026. He was born May 2, 1946, in Gary, IN, to the late Albert C. and Kathryn (Bauldauf) Johnson. Ronnie graduated from Wheeler High School in 1965, and proudly served in the US Army, where he was stationed in Vietnam during the war. Upon his return home, he met and married Brenda Robertson and together had two children before Brenda passed in 1990.
Ronnie made his career as a Boilermaker with Local 374 for many years before retirement. He loved to keep busy and help out his neighbors, friends, and family in need. Those who knew Ronnie will remember him as a kind and happy man who always had a smile on his face. He loved his family above all else and will be dearly missed by them.
In 1998, Ronnie married Martha (Noak) Chester, who survives, along with his children: Jennifer (Richard) Weiss of Union Township, and Scott (Robin) Johnson of Morley, MO; step-son, Gregory (Kristi) Chester of McCordsville, IN; grandchildren: Olivia (Gavin) Weiss, Jack Weiss, Nathaniel Johnson, Tyler (Meaghan) Johnson; step-grandchildren: Zachary Chester, Peyton (Sophia) Chester, Ryan (Abby Jo) Chester, Ella Chester, Braedan Chester, Cassandra (Matthew) Boehlke, Jacob (Kate) Chester, Samatha (Todd) Chester, Caroline Allen, Ava Allen; step great grandchildren: Owen, Ava, Emmett, Karsen, Kaycee; and sisters: Sharon Cochran and Deborah (Harold) Hardesty. He was preceded in death by brothers: Dennis and Joe Johnson; and step-son, Ralphie Chester.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, February 7, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso. Private burial at Graceland Cemetery.
