Rose Marie (Pingitore) Schmidt, 92, who lived much of her life in Port Huron, MI, went home to be with the Lord Friday, March 28, 2025. She was born on September 10, 1932 in Detroit to the late Francesco and Marietta Pingitore. She married Robert “Bob” Schmidt on August 21, 1954.
Rose graduated from Wayne State University with a degree in art education and later earned a Master’s Degree from Eastern Michigan University. She taught in Detroit and then in Port Huron for many years.
Rose loved the Lord and spent much of her life serving others. As a long-time member at Griswold St. Baptist Church, she was a leader of Pioneer Girls, taught Sunday School and VBS, and organized many showers and graduation breakfasts. Her heart for children led her to serve on the Board of Child Evangelism Fellowship of St. Clair County and the state CEF Board. Rose loved to host friends and missionaries in her home. She was an excellent cook, known especially for her spaghetti and pies. Bob loved her chocolate chip cookies, so she always kept a fresh batch in the cookie jar. She herself was partial to some late-night dark chocolate with a good book. With her artist eye and creative gifts, she could master any craft. She was an excellent seamstress, from sewing all of the dresses at her daughter’s wedding to clothes for her granddaughters’ dolls and red vests for Christmas for all the men in the family. Rose and Bob spent much of their retirement traveling the world together.
Rose loved being together with her family. She and Bob traveled to sports events and music recitals, every grandchild’s college graduation, and every terminal degree graduation. She valued education and was so proud of her grandchildren.
She is survived by her son, Eric (Jayne Minier) Schmidt; daughter, Lisa (Mickey) Weston; seven grandchildren, Bryan (Karina) Schmidt, Cory (Jayne) Schmidt, Karyn (Brent) Veerman, Erica (Rob) Harrigan, Kayla (Bryan) Aanderud, Drew (Amy) Weston, and Marissa Weston; and sixteen great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, Robert; son, Karl Schmidt; and brother, Angelo Pingitore.
A memorial service will be held at 12:30pm on Sunday, April 27, 2025, at Griswold St. Baptist Church. Pastor Dan Stewart officiating. Memorials to Child Evangelism Fellowship (C.E.F.) of St. Clair County or Griswold St. Baptist Church
