Ruben “Phil” Adkins, 80 of San Pierre, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 29, 2023. He was born March 15, 1943, in Dyersburg, TN to the late Kenneth and Laura (Crouch) Adkins. Phil proudly served in the United States Army as a Paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division. He went on to make his career as a Journeyman Plumber with Plumbers Local 210 for over 50 years. Phil enjoyed reading on his tablet, watching old western movies, and spending time with his family and friends. He will be remembered for his gregarious and friendly personality. Phil was a beloved husband, father, and “Poppy” who will be dearly missed.
On December 23, 1961, Phil married Winnie Jane Wood, who preceded him in death in 2019. He is survived by children: Lisa (Alan) Pivarnik of Demotte and Jeffrey (Denise) Adkins of LaCrosse; grandchildren: Katie (Eric) Carlson, Seth Pivarnik, Trevor Adkins, and Jeremy (Katy) Adkins; great-grandchildren: Sam, Henry, and Tucker Carlson; brother, James “Jimmy” Adkins; companion, Judy Jelinek; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce; and brothers, Rick and Allen.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 6, 2024, from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, with a funeral service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Angelcrest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or the American Cancer Society.
