Ruth A. Ullery, 88 of Valparaiso, passed away Saturday, May 13, 2023. She was born April 17, 1935, in Valparaiso to George and Ruby (Kyes) Girard. Ruth graduated from Valparaiso High School, and had been a member of the First United Methodist Church in Valparaiso. She enjoyed a career as a Paraprofessional with SELF School, before she moved to Florida and began employment with the Martin County ARC, where she worked in the group homes. After 17 years in Florida, Ruth moved back to Valparaiso and continued working in group homes with Opportunity Enterprises. Ruth had a fulfilling career working with students and clients with special needs. Her loving and caring personality thrived when she was helping others. When she wasn’t working, Ruth loved spending time with her family, who meant more to her than anything. She will be remembered for her sassy personality and big heart.
Ruth is survived by her children: Roberta (Chuck) Woods, Richelle Barger, Beth (Bruce) Yoakum, Julie (Steve) Fort Peoples, Marcie Altman, and Richard (Leigh Ann) Altman; sister, Bertie (Ben Mitchell) Spagna; grandson, David L. Coombs; and numerous other grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her father, George Girard; mother, Ruby Small; husband, Robert L. Ullery; brother, George Girard; and brother-in-law, Jerry Spagna.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be made in Ruth’s name to St. Agnes Adult Day Service Center, 1859 Harrison Blvd. Valparaiso, IN 46385.
