Scott Vern Schroeder, 60, of Valparaiso passed away Thursday, March 30, 2023 at LifeCare Center in Michigan City. He was born April 21, 1962 in Gary, IN to Vern & Doris (Lawrence) Schroeder, graduated from Valparaiso High School and attended Purdue North Central. Scott made his career with the Save-More Grocery Stores which his family-owned working as a supervisor at their Hobart location.  He concluded his working years as owner and operator of his own land care and snowplowing business.
Scott was a loving son, brother, and uncle who enjoyed all sports, but particularly the Cubs and Bears. During his younger years he became an accomplished snow skier on the local slopes. His intimate group of long-term friends knew how to keep the good times going, sometimes longer than may have been advisable. And although he could be quite charming for his customers and close friends, he also relished his cantankerous side when he wanted to play the role of the loner.
Survivors include his nephews; Dane (Jessica) Hightshoe of Chesterton, Ryan (April) Hightshoe of Portage, niece, Donelle Hightshoe, and many great nieces & nephews and great-great nieces & nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Kay Hightshoe in 2000, and nephew, Jason Hightshoe in 1995.
A celebration of Scott’s life will be announced for a later date.
