Shannon K. Bader, M.D., 83, of Valparaiso passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, October 21, 2025 surrounded by those who loved her. She was born March 3, 1942, in Toledo, Ohio to John & Helen (Westmeyer) McCarthy. Shannon received a B.S. from Ohio State University then graduated from Ohio State College of Medicine. Dr. McCarthy served her residency with Northwestern Hospital and her fellowship with Loyola Medical Center. She went on to practice as a cardiologist in Northwest Indiana for 41 years.
On November 17, 1973, at Loyola Chapel in Maywood, IL she married the love of her life, Mark P. Bader who survives along with their daughters: Lisa (Jason) Prince, & Heather (Mike) Harasty, grandchildren: Ayden Harasty, Peyton Prince & Haley Prince, and her longtime canine companion, “Jessie”. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Shannon will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. She touched countless lives with her kindness and generous spirit. She had a lifelong love of horseback riding, reading, and spending time with her family and beloved pets. Her warmth, laughter, and compassion will be cherished and remembered always.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, October 29th from 9 – 10 am at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Center, 1511 LaPorte Ave., Valparaiso with funeral mass beginning at 10:00 am, Father Jacob McDaniel officiating. A private entombment of urn will take place at Angelcrest Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Lakeshore PAWS or Café Manna c/o St. Teresa of Avila.
