Sharon Rose Corneil, 78 of Valparaiso, IN, passed away Sunday, December 22, 2024. She was born August 26, 1946, in Michigan City, IN, to the late Ray and Esther (Daly) Kosmatka. Sharon was a lifelong practicing Catholic, who attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School in Chesterton, and graduated from Chesterton High School in 1964. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and homemaker. Sharon always put the needs of her family first, ensuring they were well taken care of. She even became the “neighborhood mom” who offered rides to practices and activities for friends of her boys. Her kids always knew they could look into the stands and see her cheering loudly at all of their events. Once her sons were raised, Sharon began a fulfilling 15-year career with Target which allowed her to stock shelves, arrange displays, and train other employees. She also enjoyed playing games with her grandkids, especially Yahtzee, cards, and Bingo, crocheting blankets, making pottery, and doing arts and crafts. Time with family and friends was cherished by Sharon, and they will remember Sharon for her selfless, caring, and loving nature. She will be deeply missed.
On June 5, 1965, at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Chesterton, Sharon married the love of her life, Philip Corneil, who survives, along with their sons: Brian (Amber) Corneil of Arlington, TX, Scott (Tracy) Corneil of Valparaiso, IN, and Craig Corneil of Valparaiso, IN; grandchildren: Avery, Jarrett, Morgan, Brooke, and Devin Corneil; sister, Lou Ann (Bob) Oberle; brother, Jim (Chris) Kosmatka; sister-in-law, Connie Kosmatka; and many loving nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her twin brother, Dick (Shirley) Kosmatka.
A visitation will be held on Friday, January 3, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, with a funeral service beginning at 6:00 p.m. Cremation will follow. Memorial donations may be made in Sharon’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association.
