Shirley A. Gacsy (nee Sadowsky), 86 of Hanna, passed away peacefully on Friday, September 29, 2023 at her home just two days shy of her 87th birthday. She was born in Punxsutawney, PA on October 1, 1936 to Harry and Irene (Golias) Sadowsky. She began working at Gary Sheet and Tin Mill and before long, she met Richard and they got married and started a family. She has lived in Gary (Miller), Valparaiso, then Hanna. She was retired from the Valparaiso Public Library (Bookmobile) after 33 years of service.
She loved to read, do crossword puzzles, and watch Notre Dame Football. Recently she took up coloring and it was found out she was quite the artist. It was important to her that everything matched, and she always looked so beautiful; and if it sparkled, even better—and she certainly did! We will all miss her so much. Until we meet again, we love you forever. Happy birthday in heaven.
She is survived by her son, Robert Gacsy, and daughter, Joyce Gacsy; and many loving and supporting friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Richard; parents, Harry and Irene; son, Michael Richard; and grandson, Alexander R. Gacsy.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 9, 2023, at Calumet Park Cemetery, 2305 W 73rd Ave., Merrillville, IN at 11:00 AM. If you are planning to attend, please meet us at RE.THINK Church, 2920 W 73rd Pl, Merrillville, IN by 10:45 AM to travel to the graveside together. Memorial donations may be made to the family.
