Shirley Louise Slingsby, 89, of Valparaiso went Home to be with The Lord Wednesday, February 28, 2024. She was born September 14, 1934 in Gary, IN to William L. & Elsie (Bohling) Feeler, graduated from Edison High School and trained as a Registered Nurse at Indiana University Northwest.
She married Earl Edward Slingsby, Jr. on July 3, 1954 who preceded her in death on February 6, 1981. Survivors include their children; Phyllis Pierson (Anthony), Edward Slingsby (Rhonda), Laura Harrington (John), and Valerie Schlink, sister, Doris Brown (Lowenston), brother, Wesley Feeler, grandchildren: Michael, Philip (Kristina), and David Wenzel, Damian Hawkins, Matt and Nate Bailey, Jason (Ashley) Schlink, Jaclyn (Michael) Balunda, and 10 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, William Feeler, & sister, Lucille Feeler.
Shirley helped pioneer new ways of treating environmental and food allergies, while working at one of the only hospitals in the United States treating patients with severe reactions to these elements. Shirley volunteered for 10 years at Kids Alive International. She had a great sense of humor, enjoyed family parties, playing Bridge and working puzzles.
Following cremation at Angelcrest Crematory a private family celebration of Shirley’s life will be held. Donations in memory of Shirley may be made to St. Andrew’s Episcopal Church, 505 Bullseye Lake Rd., Valparaiso, IN 46383.
