Valeria Lucille Parks, 95, of Valparaiso formerly of Hammond passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, September 7, 2023. She was born December 28, 1927, in Wheatfield, Indiana to Tipton & Lizzie (Guthrie) Wiseman.  As a young girl, Valeria’s life was spared during a fire at the family home in which her mother and siblings, Pauline, Edwin & Norman Wiseman perished, forever altering her life.  Growing up with relatives during the great depression taught her lessons in sacrifice and perseverance that could never be learned in a classroom.  Valeria became an accomplished cook and baker, and enjoyed passing these skills on to her grandchildren.  She was a long time member of the First United Methodist Church in Hammond, attended the Friendship Center in Valparaiso and embraced activity leadership at her most recent home of Pines Village.
On October 16, 1944 she married Elmer Parks who preceded her in death on June 9, 2000. Survivors include their daughter, Cynthia (Mark) Wayne of Valparaiso, grandchildren; Braden (Amy) Wayne, Eric (Andrea) Wayne, Jared (Amanda) Wayne, and great-grandchildren; Allie, Caitlyn, Anna, Makena, Xander & JoJo. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Crider.
She will remain in our hearts and memories forever.
