Valerie June Irwin, 58, of LaCrosse, Indiana passed away at her home on Thursday, November 10, 2022. She was born June 22, 1964 to James L. & Fiona (Spruitenberg) Irwin, Sr. and graduated from LaCrosse High School in 1982. Valerie was a lover and protector of animals, especially the menagerie of dogs and cats that were lucky enough to share her home over the years. Her independent and stoic characteristics served her well during her lifetime, choosing to make her own decisions and accepting the consequences without blame. Despite the challenges in her life Valerie remained as determined as ever.  Survivors include her parents, Jim & Fiona Irwin of Wanatah and many loving aunts, uncles & cousins. Valerie was preceded in death by her big brother, James Irwin, Jr. in 2003 whom she loved and adored.
A visitation will be held Saturday, January 7th from 1 – 4 pm at the Wanatah Legion with a meal to follow.  Memorial donations may be made to Giant Paw Prints Rescue, LaPorte County Animal Shelter or Michigan City Humane Society.

GUESTBOOK

I am so very sad to hear of Val’s passing. Just know she did exactly what she wanted to do and she did it alone. She was a very quiet person with a lot of emotions, who danced to the beat of her own drum. Her mind was like a captive vessel that took it all in and remembered it at the most convenient times. Things I didn’t remember she knew, with detail. We played sports in school together and she always shined. No matter what it was, she shined. She was and still is an amazing person who was full of love and dedication. When you were her friend it was for life. Val and I started kindergarten together and remained friends til the end. She will be missed by many, especially me. I apologize for not making the celebration of life. Val would understand why I wasn’t there. She’s in my thoughts everyday. She knows I love her and I’ll miss her everyday for the rest of my life. Condolences to Jim and Fiona. I’m so sorry for your loss. She definitely was a one of a kind there will never be another Valerie June Irwin. -Rebecca L Turner Delreal
