Violet Ann Grabow, 86, of Valparaiso, formerly of Hammond, passed away Thursday, March 2, 2023. Born September 11, 1936 in Maywood, IL to William & Viola (Hilty) Rudis, Violet was forever grateful for having graduated from Trinity High School in River Forest, received her B.A. in Education from Loyola University in downtown Chicago, and began a career as an elementary school teacher. On August 1, 1959, she married Emil F. Grabow, M.D., who preceded her too early in death in 2001. Survivors include their sons; Mark Grabow of Valparaiso & Craig Grabow of Chicago, granddaughters; Evann, Sidney & Audrey Grabow, and sisters; Vandy Dawn (Ken) Jansen & Virginia (Jay) Becker.
Violet will be remembered fondly for her many global travels with Emil, her never ending appetite for hosting parties, especially summertime pool parties for friends and family, her love of laughter as nourishment for the soul, and the many celebratory cards she mailed to one and all. “Sweet dreams you made of these, traveling the world and the 7 seas.” With sadness and love in our hearts, we’ll remember and miss your giving spirt. Sincere gratitude to all the Porter County health care providers who made her last days peaceful and pain free.
A celebratory recognition of Violet’s life will be held in the springtime.
