Ward Dennis Hodges, 81 of Valparaiso, IN, passed away Monday, September 4, 2023. He was born June 5, 1942, in Gary, IN to Ward Ambrose Hodges and Bertha (nee Langbehn) Hodges. Dennis made his career as a freelance journalist, where he was able to write articles for various newspapers, magazines, and publications. Some of his work highlighted the fast rails initiative, and at one point he started his own magazine. Dennis grew up in St. John’s Lutheran Church in Gary, where he would publicize the works of the church. He was a current member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Valparaiso. Dennis enjoyed traveling, and will be remembered for his outgoing personality. He will be dearly missed.
Dennis is survived by his sister, Candy (Dave) Gaines; niece and nephews: Mark (Jenny) Hodges, Kurt (Ashley) Hodges, Elizabeth (Kendall) Hitchcock, Heather (Chris) Minard, and Adam (Meredith) Gaines; and great nieces and nephews: Trystan, Aydan, Kamryn, Halie, Caitlin, Reese, Hudson, Joey, and Beckett. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Tom Hodges.
Following cremation, Dennis’ ashes will be laid to rest at the Immanuel Lutheran Scattering Garden.
