Wendell G. Birky, 90, of Valparaiso passed away Tuesday, January 23, 2024. He was born June 30, 1933, in Hopedale, IL to Levi & Emma (Bechler) Birky and graduated from Wanatah High School. Wendell made his career with Farmers Grain & Lumber/Malden Co-op and as a local farmer in Morgan Township for over 40 years. He was a member of Hopewell Mennonite Church in Kouts from 1946 – 2024.
On August 27, 1955 he married Marlene K. Nafziger who preceded him in death in 2020. He is survived by one brother, Merlyn (Mary Jo) Birky of Valparaiso and many loving nieces, nephews & friends. He was also preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Lois Kuehl, Jean Troyer, Iris Birky, Eldon, Orville & Willis Birky.
A visitation will be held Saturday from 9 am – 11 am at Kosanke Funeral Home 309 S. Main St., Kouts with funeral service beginning at 11:00 am and burial to follow at Hopewell Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Hopewell Mennonite Church.
