William “Bill” L. Abel, 77, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, March 24, 2024. He was born September 10, 1946 to Donald & Virginia (Mead) Abel and graduated from Elkhart Central High School in 1964.  Bill was proud to have served as a Valparaiso Fire fighter for 26 years, retiring as Assistant Fire Chief in 1996. He also owned his own successful business, Abel Floor Covering which he operated well into retirement. As retirement didn’t suit him, he returned to work for the Valparaiso Parks Department for 10 years. Since Bill was such a hard worker and liked to be busy, he channeled that energy and commitment into his church, Cross Pointe Christian Church. His love for church and family shown through his generosity and willingness to help out wherever needed. He had a passion for travel and he and Lorraine enjoyed many trips.  Bill might be fondly remembered for his sense of humor & humble spirit.
He is survived by his wife of 32 years Lorraine (nee Reidelberger) his daughters Christa Abel (Garrett Lechowski) of Massachusetts, Tamara Wagner (Jeff) of Leesburg and two grandchildren Grant and Zoe Wagner, his sister Karen Pfister of Elkhart, 2 stepchildren, 3 step grandchildren and 8 step great grandchildren.
A visitation will be held Thursday from 3 – 7 pm at Moeller Funeral Home, Valparaiso. The funeral service will be held Friday, March 29th, 10:00 am at CrossPointe Christian Church, 114 E. Hwy. #6, Valparaiso, Pastor Todd Thomson officiating with burial to follow at Graceland Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to CrossPointe Christian Church Expansion Fund.

We all loved Bill so much. He brought so much energy to every conversation he joined or room he entered. He will definitely be missed. We are praying for peace and comfort for his family and friends.
