William Douglas “Bear” Moore, 83 of Valparaiso, passed Friday, February 7, 2025. He was born July 9, 1941 in Shelbyville, KY to Francis Drane and Virginia Bernice (Perkins) Moore. Bear served in the Army National Guard and on the Volunteer Fire Department while living in Kentucky. He made his career working in the Casting Department for 38 years at Bethlehem Steel and was a member of the Masonic Porter Lodge 137 and the Order of the Eastern Star. Bear was an avid Cubs fan, enjoyed woodworking, coin collecting, and tracing his family’s genealogy.
On November 16, 1960, William married Shirley J. McLarney who survives along with their children, Donna Moore, Billie-Jo Moore, Michael (Christie) Moore, and Jeffrey (Amber) Moore; 9 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Carissa; and siblings, Wanda, Sylvia, and Dickie.
Visitation will be held Friday, February 14, 2025 from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Moeller Funeral Home 104 Roosevelt Rd., with a Funeral Service beginning at 1:00 PM. Burial will follow at Angelcrest Cemetery, Valparaiso. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to the Shriners Children's Hospital.
