William Michael “Bill” Berry, 67 of Chesterton, passed away on Thursday, February 13, 2025. He was born on November 6, 1957 in Gary, IN to William E. and Phyllis (Herringer) Berry. Bill graduated from Hobart High School in 1976 and began his career path working for EJ&E Railroad. He also worked as an EMT in Hobart, was an instructor at the Medical Career Institute of Chicago and for various hospitals and educational establishments, and most recently as a CNA at Chesterton Manor and retired from Residence at Coffee Creek. Saying Bill was an avid Notre Dame fan is an understatement; watching and attending games with his family brought him immense joy. We would be remiss if we failed to also mention how he would cheer on the Chicago Bears and Chicago Cubs. His sense of humor could muster a chuckle from anyone. He will be dearly missed.
On September 26, 2016, Bill married Jean Schmidt, who survives, along with his children, Brandon Michael (Carmelyn) Berry and Danielle (Eliott) Reichler; stepsons, John William Leatherby and Leland Earl Hanna; grandchildren: Matthew Berry, Ethan Berry, Brooklyn Berry, Thomas Reichler, Anna Reichler, Lauren Hanna, and Kathleen Hanna; parents, William and Phyllis Berry; siblings: Laverna “Tweek” (Alan) VanDan, Valerie (Marc) Bourdeau, Kimberly (William) Rujevcan, and Jim Berry; and many loving nieces, nephew, extended family, and friends. He was preceded in death by his brother-in-law, Bill Rich.
A Celebration of Life to take place at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association in Bill’s name.
