Beverly Eve Evans, 90, of Valparaiso, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 13, 2024. Born on August 16, 1934, in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, she was the oldest daughter of Charles and Mary (nee Gregson) Easter. Beverly pursued her education at the University of Western Ontario, where she earned a B.A. in Business. This degree opened doors for her to work for the Canadian High Commission in India, where she spent nearly three years and met her future husband on a blind date. On June 18, 1960, Beverly married John C. Evans of Gary Indiana, in Burlington, Ontario, Canada. After honeymooning at the family cottage on Georgian Bay, she and John moved to Indiana. Following the early years of raising their four children, Beverly returned to the workforce working for the Hudson Company Insurance in Valparaiso for almost twenty years.
In addition to her family, her love of gardening was one of her greatest joys. She consistently studied different plant varietals and obtained a Master Gardener designation. Her gardens were vibrant from spring to fall and attracted a diverse array of bird species and butterflies, which she enjoyed observing. Beverly, an avid reader, was always up to date on current events and sports which provided a great source of conversation for all. For many years, she was active in the Pi Beta Phi service sorority Alumni Club and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Valparaiso. We will be forever thankful to Dr. Young Kwang Chae and the team at Northwestern University, particularly Markie & Brooke, who through the treatments and care provided, extended her life, perpetuated her independence, and allowed her to see grandchildren graduate from high school, college, and law school, get married, and have children. It was one of the greatest gifts our family could receive.
Beverly is preceded in death by her husband, John, who passed away in August of 2014. She is survived by their four children: Kristina Evans (Dr. Rafael Rodriguez), John Evans, Jr. (Wendy), Patrick Evans (Jennifer), and Sarah Opperman (Chris). Beverly is also survived by her three siblings: Robert Easter (Mary), Sandra Ferguson (David), and Patricia Hancock (Barry), as well as her grandchildren: Kristina Sofia, Alexandra Cecilia, Charlie, Sam, Daniel, Allison, CJ, and Michael, and her great-grandson, Julian.
Beverly's legacy of love, resilience and passion for gardening will be cherished by her family and friends.
Following cremation, a private family service will be held to celebrate Beverly’s life.
GUESTBOOK
She was quite the warrior and you all extended her life with your loving care. -Sandra and David Ferguson
Your dad & mom were the first to greet us when we moved into the neighborhood almost 40 yrs ago. That was the start of a long friendship. We had many driveway chats. Your dad & mom loved sharing pictures & the latest news of the grandchildren that they were so very proud of. I can still see your dad driving by with his faithful dog sitting along side on his way to work. They’ll be missed but not forgotten. With Sympathy & Love, -Bruce & Sally Pollock
What a wonderful life she had. I miss my sister and the weekly phone calls that brought us up-to-date with all of the great things going on in the lives of her kids and their children as they got older. She was so proud of their accomplishments. Like our mother she was the glue that bonded the 4 of us. -Pat & Barry Hancock
Just heard the news! Very sorry. 90 years - WOW! My parents loved your parents and I loved your parents too. Local parties, clubs, visits to Florida. Take good care, -Donald Eisenhauer
