Dixie Lee Christensen, 79, of North Liberty, IN passed away Thursday, December 26, 2024. She was born March 25, 1945, in Gary, IN to Herbert & Jennie (nee Mitchell) Lafferty, graduated from River Forest High School in 1963, and received an associate’s degree from Indiana University in Respiratory Therapy. Dixie practiced as a respiratory therapist throughout northwest Indiana for over 20 years.

In retirement Dixie & Den traveled in their motorhome throughout ALL the lower 48 states with winters in Gulf Shores, Alabama and Mesa, Arizona.  This allowed them to enjoy time fishing, golfing (Dixie accomplished a hole-in-one), and casino gaming. A recent Alaska cruise to celebrate their 50th anniversary gave them special pleasure. “Thomas” their cat also seemed to give Dixie a certain comfort despite her never having had a fondness for felines.

On March 6, 1974, she married Dennis Christensen who survives along with their children: Ron Hobson of Valparaiso, David (Julie) Christensen of Arizona & Dan Christensen of California, sister, Linda Gulley of Crown Point, brother, Herbert Lafferty, Jr. of Missouri, granddaughters: Ashley (Chris) Doran & Drew Christensen, and great-grandchildren: Reese, Rheytt & Rory.  She was preceded in death by one son, R. Dan Hobson in 1986, sisters: Leah (Lenny) Yarsh & Donna Dixon, and brother-in-law, James Gulley.

A visitation will be held Monday, January 6th from 11 am – 2 pm at Moeller Funeral Home, Valparaiso with funeral service beginning at 2:00 pm and cremation to follow. Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Sorry for your loss Dixie was always fun to be around! -Dwayne Durfee

We are so very sorry to hear of Dixie's passing. She was always a joy to be around. She was good to talk to through my daughter's life with c.f. She made Mom laugh a lot, when we were young. Good person. -Ruby (Hahs) Schaefer

I am in shock that I will never hear Dixie's infectious laugh again. What a wonderful spirit who could light up any room! I wish I could be there today to hug all of you and tell you how much you mean to me. -Susan Lewandowski
