Mona Cantrell, 71 of Portage, IN, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, October 12, 2024. She was born February 26, 1953, in West Liberty, KY, to Buel and Martha (Jones) Cantrell. As a single mom, raising two children, Mona decided to fulfill her life’s dream of becoming a nurse. Her hard work, determination, and tenacity paid off as she graduated from PNC with her nursing degree in 1990. This courageous decision inspired her children and grandchildren to obtain their higher education degrees, changing the trajectory of their family’s future forever. Mona’s nursing career began in the ICU at Methodist Northlake in Gary, to St. Mary’s Hospital in Hobart, and the Porter Surgical Outpatient Center in Portage. Outside of work, Mona’s life revolved around her family, especially her beloved grandchildren. She enjoyed crocheting blankets and doilies, sewing, and reupholstering furniture. Mona touched so many lives with her kind spirit and loving nature. She will be dearly missed.
Mona is survived by her children: Elizabeth “Beth” (George) Bozinovski of Winfield, IN, and James “Buddy” (Katie “Doc”) Cantrell of Chattanooga, TN; grandchildren: Victoria Bozinovski, Alyssa Cantrell, Andrew Cantrell, Jacqueline Bozinovski, Kaitlynn Cantrell, Isabella Bozinovski, and Alexander Bozinovski; siblings: Dean (Debbie) Cantrell, Carolyn (Phil) Fyffe, Hope Childers, and Paul (Jennifer) Cantrell; stepmom, Von Cantrell; and many loving extended family members. She was preceded in death by her parents, and infant granddaughter, Hope Bozinovski.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, October 19, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 P.M. at Moeller Funeral Home, 104 Roosevelt Rd., Valparaiso, IN, with a memorial service beginning at 12:00 P.M.
